Stuffed Peppers

Sauce
Israeli Olive oil

Large onion, sliced

Can crushed skinless tomatoes

Date honey (Silan)

Red wine
1/4 Cup
Good quality balsamic vinegar
Filling
Rice
1 Cup
Large onion, diced
1
Israeli Olive oil
1 Tbsp
Ground beef
2¼ lbs
Seasoning mixture
2 Tbsp
Kosher salt
1 Tbsp
Tomato paste
2 Tbsp
Large bell peppers (red, orange, or yellow)

Instructions
Step 1
Soak the rice in boiling water for 30 minutes.
Step 2
In a large pot over high heat, saute the onion in olive oil until golden brown, 10-12 minutes.
Step 3
Add a tablespoon of spice mixture to the onions and saute until fragrant.
Step 4
Add the tomatoes, date honey, and balsamic vinegar / wine to the pot.
Step 5
Add 2 quarts of water and reduce heat to medium low.
Step 6
In a large bowl, combine the ingredients for the filling and mix thoroughly.
Step 7
Remove the heads from the peppers and clean the inside of the peppers from any seeds.
Step 8
Fill the peppers with filling mixture and place them next to each other into the pot containing the sauce.
Step 9
Pour a tablespoon of the sauce on each filled pepper and replace pepper head on top of each. Cover and cook on low heat for 1 hour. You can add boiling water to the sauce if necessary.
