Date BBQ Sauce Recipe
Israelis know how to do two things really well – host a great BBQ, and put dates in everything. So it was only a matter of time before the two came together in the form of date BBQ sauce. This sweet and smoky sauce is the perfect addition to your grilling repertoire. Trust us, once you’ve tried it, you’ll be putting it on everything!
Ingredients
Onion, finely chopped
1
Date honey (Silan)
4 Tbsp
Tomato paste
1/4 Cup
Apple cider vinegar
1/4 Cup
Brown sugar
1/4 Cup
Israeli Olive oil
2 Tbsp
Garlic, minced
2 Cloves
Smoked paprika
1 teaspoon
Chili powder
1 Tsp
Ground Cumin
1/2 Tsp
Dead sea Salt and pepper
1/4 Tsp
water
2 Cup
Instructions
Step 1
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and add the onions. Cook for 7 minutes until softened, then add the garlic and cook for another minute.
Step 2
Add all of the spices - and cook, stirring frequently, for 1 minute.
Step 3
Add the tomato paste and date honey and mix until combined. Cook for a few more minutes until the mixture starts to darken slightly.
Step 4
Add the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt, pepper and water and stir to combine.
Step 5
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, simmer for another 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture has thickened slightly.
Step 6
Remove from heat and blend with an immersion blender until smooth.
Step 7
Place the sauce in a glass jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
